A Styling Story

THE MAKING OF THE SILK CLOTHES

Words by Natasha Inchley

“I wanted scarfs to be a key focus for the brand, but with a fresh spirit,” says Sophie Holt, Oroton’s new Creative Director. “It’s about injecting the collections with modern colour combinations and a twist.”

Silk is also important: when Holt delved into the house archives, she reimagined its key motifs via a collection of light and airy silk pieces worthy of a weekend away on a sun-drenched coastline. Clean-lined and bright, the results are dreamy!

THE INSPIRATION

Taking inspiration from the archives, the signature silk scarves are mapped out on a cutting table, much like a giant jigsaw for the design team.

THE DESIGN DRAWINGS

When it comes to shape, the silhouettes are designed to be soft, allowing the natural fabric to drape the body – the total look is considered, from buttons, collars and plackets through to the finishing touches.

THE PATTERN MAKING

Time for pattern making and the garments must look as beautiful on the inside as they do on the outside – quality and craftsmanship has forever been a focus and the same applies to the new collection.

THE FITTING

While fitting samples on the house model, the new pieces are given the final once-over.
